“I am not a teacher, but an awakener.” ― Robert Frost
About Me
My Philosophy About Learning & Teaching
My teaching is based on the idea that students learn more and construct deeper meaning in an environment that is collaborative and student centered. I believe the more opportunities students have to work together and construct their own meaning through projects that are enriched with relevant concepts and content, the more they will learn and the higher their level of academic success.
My English 9 classes will utilize project based learning and will be student centered to engage students in learning and critical thinking.
My Education and Experience
I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, in 2007. In 2009, I completed the course and field work necessary to obtain a California single-subject teaching credential in English and a supplemental in educational technology.
While completing my education course work, I was also employed through a Cal Poly fellowship at Teach Elementary School in San Luis Obispo. There, I collaborated with classroom teachers to develop technology lessons that extended the concepts being taught in their classrooms. This experience, along with the 5 years employed as the Digital High School Technician at IHS and 3 years as a technology teacher at FWMS, gives me the strong educational technology background I will use to integrate current technologies in my ELA curriculum.
